About Bulldogs

According to the AKC, there are certain standards a showable and breedable bulldog must follow:               How does Larry compare?

General Appearance
  • medium size
  • smooth coat
  • heavy, thick body
  • massive head
  • short-faced (no muzzle)
  • wide shoulders
  • sturdy limbs
Size
Males - adults should be about 50 lbs
Females - adults should be about 40 lbs
Coat and Skin
Coat:
     straight and short, close to the skin
Skin:
     soft and loose, especially around the head and neck
Wrinkles:
     heavy wrinkles should be found at the head and face
     the wrinkles on the neck should be two loose at either side of the head that form the "dewlap"
Preferred colors (in order of preference)
  • Red brindle
  • All other brindles
  • Solid white
  • Solid red, fawn, or fallow
  • Piebald
Temperament
Bulldogs should have very kind dispositions.  They should be resolute and courageous.  In no way should they be aggressive.  They also have a dignified way about them.
